01 General Photo Tour Information

Why choose Photo Tours Vancouver?

We are experienced and local.  Our photography experts have a strong foundation of knowledge and experience with both technical and creative aspects of photography.  We love sharing that information and helping you become a better photographer?

We want you to see our city in  new way and come home with more confidence and better memories.

What is the difference between a photo tour and a regular walking tour?

A regular walking tour often moves too quickly for photographers.  Our tours are specifically designed to allow you time to explore your exposures and compositions along the way.

Your local photography expert also plans for the best time of day and has insider tips for cool locations and viewpoints.

Plus, we help you figure out what that mystery button on your camera does!

Can you review my photos?

Absolutely!  We believe feedback and critique is essential to growing as a photographer.

We offer image critique videos by our founder and lead photography expert, Aura McKay.

What kind of transportation will we use?

Our photo tours are walking tours – eco friendly and way more time to photograph as we wonder through the different neighbourhoods.

Most tour locations are gentle to moderate walking.  A sturdy pair of shoes and and average fitness level.

If you have concerns or want to know which tours are wheelchair accessible, please send us an email or give us a call at 1.778.994.4904

Who is my tour leader?

Most group and private photo tours are being lead by our founder, Aura McKay.

You will receive confirmation on the name and experience level of your specific local photography expert with your private photo tour booking.

Can I use my camera phone on a photo tour?

Yes! We are working on developing mobile-ography specific tours too!

You will get some great shots with your camera phone and learn some new tips on most group tours and any private photo tours!

Tours that require specific camera equipment will list it on the booking page.

What if it rains? Do tours run in bad weather?

Yes! Tours still run in the rain.  Vancouver is a rain forest ecosystem and there are so many great images and photography techniques that we can practice when it’s wet.

However, photography tours are meant to be fun so please make sure you are dressed appropriately and bring a lens cloth. A lens hood can help you keep some of the drops off the front of your lens.

If you have a non-photographer companion that wants to come along and hold your umbrella….go ahead and invite them along at no extra charge!

If the weather is really terrible or you aren’t sure, please give us a call an hour or two before your scheduled tour start time at 1.778.994.4904

02 Equipment

What kind of camera gear do I need to bring?

For most tours a digital SLR, point & click, or even a camera phone will work!

We think that a good quality zoom lens (like a 24mm – 105mm) on your DSLR will give you the most options for practicing the photography techniques we share on our tours.

Night photography and low light group photo tours  are not well suited to point & click cameras or camera phones and you must have a tripod to practice the specific techniques. You can rent tripods.

Always make sure you have a fully charged camera battery and lot’s of room on your memory cards!

If specific camera equipment is required it will be listed on the group photo tour booking page.

Can I rent equipment from you?

We don’t currently offer equipment rentals but there are a couple of places in town that have great rental options!  This is our local favourite.
